Forest School Qualifications

Adrian our tutor has been working in conservation and environmental education in its various forms for 25 years. Since 2010 when he undertook his Forest School training it transformed his approach and facilitation of education and coaching and tutoring across the board. He has been tutoring Forest School training, across the qualifications, since 2015 with various South Coast Wildlife Trusts.

We are really pleased to be working in partnership with Liminalis offering Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 Forest School Leader training. Our first courses working together was in 2019 at the Sustainability Centre, Droxford, Hampshire. We will continue to offer training at this venue and their information is here

The approach to the training is to mirror, where possible, the Forest School ethos as closely as possible. Allowing learners to investigate and explore the skills they have been shown.

Currently we offer a ten day face to face level 3 course, allowing time to develop a community of learning and find their own route through the curriculum and skills offered. We want learners to have the space and time to thoroughly practice practical skills and develop a wide variety of craft items and proficient in the skills required to be  a successful practitioner. Additionally, those with previous experience and skills to share their practice too, in a peer to peer approach. This is supported with access to the tutor through chat groups, email and recorded video meetings if required. The portfolio can be a broad approach using a wide variety of media; phots, video, voice recordings and written.

Full document support is offered with handbooks and support documentation.  These days are currently in small blocks over the time scale of 6 months. We feel this gives time to practice, reflect and implement skills. You will need access to run a taster programme as part of your qualification.

The level two course is carried out across 5 days, with very much the same approach as the level three with time to practice, discuss, learn and share. As this is a support qualification the portfolio workload is much reduced, you will need access to an established Forest School to complete your portfolio.
